Waco Twins Rescued from Hill Country Flooding Speak for First Time
For days, their story gripped the hearts of Texans everywhere — two small twins, missing in the chaos of the Hill Country floods, swept away from their family’s truck in the darkness of a rising river near Kerrville, Texas. But today, for the first time, 6-year-old Emma and Eli Carson are speaking — and what they’re saying is both heartbreaking and full of hope.
“We held hands the whole time,” Emma whispered, her voice barely above a breath. “We promised we wouldn’t let go — no matter what.”
The twins were found huddled together on a riverbank more than two miles from where they were last seen, soaked, bruised, and shivering — but alive. According to rescuers, it was their bond that kept them from giving up.
“They stayed awake by singing church songs they remembered from Sunday school,” said rescue worker Maria Lopez, fighting back tears. “It was the most beautiful sound I’ve ever heard in the middle of so much devastation.”
Their parents, John and Melissa Carson, had been helping deliver food supplies to flood victims when a flash flood overwhelmed the rural road they were traveling. “The water came so fast,” John said. “One moment we were on the road — the next, the truck was gone.”
For 12 hours, search crews combed the countryside in the dark, praying for a miracle. That miracle came at sunrise.
“When we heard the faint singing,” said Lopez, “we knew it wasn’t just noise — it was faith.”
Now safe in a Kerrville hospital, the twins are recovering well. Doctors say they’re “incredibly resilient,” both physically and emotionally. But more than that, the spirit they carried through the storm is inspiring an entire community.
“We’re not scared anymore,” Eli said, clutching a stuffed bear. “God was with us. He kept us together.”
It’s a reminder that in the face of nature’s fiercest storms, love and faith are sometimes the strongest life rafts of all.
And as their small voices echo in hospital halls and across social media, one thing is clear: Emma and Eli didn’t just survive. They brought light to a dark chapter — and gave us all a reason to believe.
