The world is rallying around legendary actor Bruce Willis, 69, after his family released an emotional statement confirming that he has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) — a progressive neurological disorder that affects speech, behavior, and cognitive function.

The update came from his wife, Emma Heming Willis, who spoke with remarkable grace and strength as she shared what the journey has looked like behind the scenes.

“While this is painful, it’s also a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis,” Emma said in a public statement on behalf of the family. “Bruce always believed in using his voice to help others, and we know — if he could — he would want to raise awareness and help others going through this too.”

The actor, best known for iconic roles in Die Hard, The Sixth Sense, and Armageddon, had previously stepped away from acting in 2022 after being diagnosed with aphasia, a condition affecting communication. As symptoms progressed, the family sought further answers — and FTD was confirmed earlier this year.

Frontotemporal dementia is less common than Alzheimer’s but is one of the most prevalent forms of dementia for people under 65. It typically affects behavior, personality, and language.

Despite the diagnosis, the Willis family — including his five daughters, ex-wife Demi Moore, and devoted wife Emma — say they remain united and grateful for the outpouring of love from fans around the world.

“We’ve seen the beauty in sharing this journey,” Emma added. “The kindness, compassion, and community around us has made a difficult time feel less lonely.”

The family has also pledged to advocate for more research and awareness about FTD, working closely with the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration to spread education and support.
